Ibadan Organises Safety And Health Enlightenment Programme For Construction Employers

The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund in partnership with Phanmaris Limited organised a one-day annual occupational safety and health enlightenment programme for construction employers in Ibadan, Oyo State. The programme was centered on the theme, “Enhancing Productivity Through Prevention of Workplace Accidents and Promotion of Occupational Safety and Health in the Construction Sector”. The event which took place on March 1, 2022, was organised to enlighten and equip employers with the right knowledge on how to ensure a safe workplace, prevent accidents and promote occupational safety and health of their employees. The event was held at the Grand Maridos Hotel Ibadan.
The resource person, Mr. D.C Enwere spoke extensively on the import of the Employees Compensation Act 2010 and its implications for employers and employees. He highlighted the benefits of the scheme, and the evolution of the NPF into NSITF.
He reflected on some of the Frequently Ask Questions (FAQ) pamphlet and assured the gathering of the Fund’s commitment and capacity to deliver quality services to its respective clients. Coach Daniel Thomas who handled one of the sessions explained how employers can be risk-conscious, reduce risk, and put in place proactive measures in workplaces to mitigate against risk. He also encouraged employers and employees to adopt safety practices in their work environment to avoid accidents as a result of unsafe acts/behaviour of people. The participants on their parts appreciated the Federal Government for its establishment of the ECS and expressed delight at how the ECS covers all the areas that relates to their work.
Mrs. Y.O Fasola, Deputy General Manager of the Ibadan Branch gave the vote of thanks. She appreciated the manager of the Fund for the programme and thanked the facilitators and participants for attending the event.
